Burlington Town Election: Warfield, Morandi, Runyan Re-elected

BURLINGTON, MA — The incumbents won re-election in Burlington's town clerk and Board of Selectmen races Saturday, while Christine Kim won election to the Shawsheen Tech School Committee.

Town Clerk Amy Warfield easily won re-election, with 2,330 of the 2,873 votes cast. Incumbent Selectmen Joe Morandi and Mike Runyan topped a tightly-contested race with Town Meeting Member Shari Ellis.

The three Board of Selectmen candidates were separated by fewer than 150 votes in the race for two seats on the board.

Christine Kim topped Michael Kelly by over 20 points in the race for an open seat on the Shawsheen Tech School Committee.

Warfield, 64 has been the town clerk for 10 years. She argued the position "is a job I'm well qualified for" given her experience and carried over 80 percent of the vote in her race.

The top vote-getter in the selectmen race was three-term incumbent Michael Runyan, a retired firefighter. Runyan, 63, touted his experience on the board and previous elected offices and won 28.7 percent of the vote. Board Chairman Joe Morandi, a barber, was 68 votes behind him, with 27.5.

Longtime Town Meeting Member Shari Ellis just missed out on her bid to unseat one of the incumbents, with 26.5 percent of the vote.
