The town election, business openings and closings and other topics were major stories. But none beat the virus.
BURLINGTON, MA — On March 18, 2020, there were about 250 confirmed coronavirus cases statewide. Burlington schools were in their first week of remote learning.
That day, a local family of medical professionals put out a call for volunteers to sew protective masks. The group was only in the planning stages, but their request found an eager audience of people looking for a way to help out. Within hours, they had more volunteers than they could handle.
