BURLINGTON, MA — State lawmakers passed a budget that includes $125,000 for a bus line between Lowell and Burlington. The bus line is seen as a way to make it easier for Burlington-based restaurants to fill job openings. The $125,000 in the budget, which still needs to be signed by Gov. Charlie Baker, is the same amount of state funding in last year's budget.

Earlier this year, he Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization awarded $290,000 over three years to the Middlesex 3 Coalition to expand bus service between Burlington and Lowell. The service is operated by the Lowell Regional Transit Authority. The authority currently offers 14 daily trips on weekdays between Lahey Clinic in Burlington and Kennedy Center in Lowell.
