Overall Violent Crime Down in Burlington but Severity Up, Property Crime Dips
The FBI's Uniform Crime Report has been released.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Report shows that violent crimes were down in 2012 compared to 2010 in Burlington, though the types of violent crimes committed were more dire. Property crime dipped slightly in 2012 compared to 2010.
The FBI crime stats for 2011 do not include Burlington.
The FBI's annual report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall after the reporting year.

There were 39 reported violent crimes in Burlington in 2012, a decrease from the 47 in 2010. Violent crime includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
While violent crime was down in 2012, there were more instances of the worst types of crimes. There was one murder in 2012, the first in Burlington in years. There were also five forcible rapes in 2012, up from zero in 2010.There were seven robberies in 2012, down from 12 in 2010. There were 26 aggravated assaults in 2012 and 35 in 2010.
Property crimes continue to be the most reported crimes in Burlington but was down slightly from 2010. There were 631 property crimes reported in 2012 and 689 in 2010.

Finally there were 16 motor vehicle thefts in 2012 and 18 in 2010. There were zero instances of arson in 2012 but there were two in 2010.
