A Shining Light That Unifies a Community

A leading human service provider since its opening in 1968, NuPath supports individuals with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders to help them achieve a sense of belonging within their community. Their goal is to provide the highest quality care and service to the most vulnerable population. For over four decades, NuPath has helped more than 3,000 people celebrate lives worth living and discover the courage to reach for their dreams. NuPath is proud to be a leading advocate for the people they serve and for the employees who provide care.

Daniel Harrison, President and CEO of NuPath wanted a project that would bring together everyone that touches NuPath, from their employees to the people they serve and including the members of the community. “We needed something that would unite us and pull us all together.” Needless to say NuPath found it in the Unity Light project.

Degas once said ‘Art is not what you see, but what you make others see’. At NuPath, the Unity Light project ideal shines brightly. The Unity Light project helps to view the people NuPath serves in a whole new light.

The idea was to create a piece of art that everyone associated with NuPath would come together to make something beautiful. 733 pieces of colorful stained glass represents 382 dedicated employees and 351 unique people that NuPath serves. Like each individual, every piece of glass has its own beauty and difference. For many of the people they serve, this was their first experience with art. They were thrilled to have the opportunity to show everyone their inner artist and creativity. Watching them go through the creative process was truly a proud moment. The time and care they took to select the different colors and shapes showed a true artistic eye and was a reminder that there is always much more than meets the eye.

Once the pieces were selected, they went about the business of piecing them together into the Unity Light. As with any puzzle, this can only be accomplished by working together. The synergy shared amongst everyone helped make this project a huge success. The teamwork continued to impress as slowly this magnificent piece began to form. When it finally came together, it was even more beautiful than they had imagined. Even more breathtaking was the story behind it and the work and passion that went into its creation.

This beautiful piece of art is now a light that shines its beauty on all of NuPath and reminds them every day of the beauty and creativity that resides inside us all.
