Three Democrats Vye For 4th Middlesex Senate Seat

Winner of the June 27 primary may decide the race.

Three Democrats are vying for the unexpired 4th Middlesex Senate District seat of the late state Sen. Kenneth Donnelly, D-Arlington, who died in April due to complications from brain cancer.

While the special election is scheduled for July 25, the winner of the June 27 primary may win the overall race as no Republicans have announced their candidacy.

The candidates battling for the seat are: Cindy Friedman, D-Arlington, Donnelly's former chief of staff; state Rep.Sean Garballey, D-Arlington; and Mary Ann Stewart, D-Lexington, according to the Tewksbury Advocate.

The 4th Middlesex seat represents the Towns of Arlington, Billerica, Burlington; Precincts 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 in the Town of Lexington and the City of Woburn.

Sen. Ken Donnelly, D-Arlington, held the seat for nine years. He died at age 66.
