Cambridge Police Crack 'Card-Cracking' Case With Arrests of Two N.Y. Men

Two New York men each held on $300,000 cash bail.

WOBURN, MA — Two Brooklyn men were each held on $300,000 cash bail in Middlesex Superior Court after being charged by Cambridge Police of stealing nearly $26,000 in a "card-cracking" scheme that targeted bank accounts across the Boston area.

Delon St. Louis, 23, and Darren Zamor, 21, both from Brooklyn, New York, are expected to return to Middlesex Superior Court on May 17 for a scheduling conference. Each man has pleaded not guilty to charges of larceny over $250 by single scheme and conspiracy.

According to police, officers seized nearly $26,000 worth of cash and checks during their arrest and a search of their vehicle.

The scam involved a victim relinquishing their debit card and PIN number to someone who claims to be from a financial services company that was looking to test and improve their money-order operations. Account holders were told that they would be paid half of all money orders negotiated through their accounts. Those accounts would then be used for fraudulent activity.

Cambridge Police allege that dating back to April 2016, St. Louis and Zamor deposited counterfeit checks into bank accounts belonging to third parties who willingly or unwillingly surrendered their debit cars and PIN numbers for use in a card-cracking schemes.
