'Smoke on the Platform': Firefighters Douse Alewife Station Fire

The smoke was coming from a "rubbish fire" on the tracks, according to Cambridge Fire.

The Cambridge Fire Department doused a reported rubbish fire sending up smoke on the tracks near the Alewife T Station Tuesday.

According to the fire department, a call about smoke at the MBTA platform came in around 5 p.m. They brought a full court press in response, enumerated on Twitter as "4 engines, 2 trucks, rescue, squad, Division 2."

The source turned out to be a rubbish fire on the tracks, per Cambridge Fire.

As of about 5:30 p.m., it had been extinguished.
