Canton Girls Volleyball Team Celebrates First State Title

CANTON, MA — The Canton High girls volleyball team is the toast of the town after winning the first state championship in program history Saturday at Worcester State University. The Bulldogs won the Division 2 crown with a victory over undefeated North Sectional champion Danvers.

Canton won a marathon in front of a spirited crowd in Worcester with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-13 triumph.

Hockomock League Most Valuable Player Taylor Harris came up huge in the deciding set as the Bulldogs pulled out the triumph under the direction of head coach Pat Cawley and assistant coach Michelle Cawley.

The girls volleyball team became the eighth program at Canton High to win a state title dating back to the football and field hockey championships in 1979. There have been three field hockey titles, two in football and two in boys ice hockey. The boys ice hockey team won a state crown this past March.

The Bulldogs have won 12 of the past 13 Hockomock Davenport titles.
