The Visual Arts Department usually holds its annual art show in May, though the event was unable to be held this year due to the pandemic. Instead, work by students at each school is being featured on the site. The artwork utilizes many different mediums, and also includes work from the high school’s 2D, 3D and Studio Classes, Student Videos, Student Portfolios, and Scholastic Art.

The website also features images from the “Art Ties Us Together” project, which gave students an opportunity this spring to work together on a special project to celebrate art in the schools. For this collaborative artwork, students across all schools in the district were given a knot template to design. The work is now on display at each school site and on the website.

Several Canton High School student artists were also recently featured in the statewide virtual “Art Connects Us” exhibit, which was hosted by the Massachusetts Art Education Association to celebrate Youth Art Month in March. Each student who was featured received a Senate Citation from State Sen. Walter Timilty on Monday, May 24.

The students who received citations included:

  • Zoe Bonilla Carranza (grade 12)
  • Jessica Hart (grade 12)
  • Elise Kleinbauer (grade 12)
  • Skyler Lam (grade 12)
  • Laura Miranda (grade 12)
  • Natalie Nguyen (grade 12)
  • Madison Rousseau (grade 12)
  • Kaitlyn Sullivan (grade 12)
  • Trisha Bhattacharya (grade 11)
  • Kiara Cerruti (grade 11)
  • Megan Walter (grade 11)
  • Alvaro Cezon Gimenez (grade 10)

“Congratulations to each of these students on their Senate Citations and to all of our students on their wonderful artwork this year,” Dr. Fischer-Mueller said. “I would also like to thank Senator Timilty for recognizing our students, and Patricia Palmer and the Visual Arts staff for their expertise and dedication to our student artists.”
