Project SMILE Walkathon Raises Awareness About Stress Management
Project SMILE (Stress Management in Learning Environments) held a walkathon to raise awareness about stress management in Canton
CANTON, Mass.- On Sunday, November 4, 2018, CHS community problem solving team Project SMILE (Stress Management in Learning Environments) held a walkathon to raise awareness about stress management at the Canton High School Track. Many members of the community participated to show their support for one of the most pressing causes in society today, including Selectman Thomas W. Theodore.
To commence the event, members of Project SMILE introduced their project. Anvitha Addanki stated their hope as to “promote healthy ways to cope with stress as well as educating the community about the dangers of it.” Sinead Qiu described what stress is and how “Identifying what may be causing a person stress is often the first step in learning how to better deal with it.” Harshitha Valluri explained some statistics of stress that students face, highlighting that stress is linked to the six leading causes of death. Ciara O’Connor presented the importance of stress management: “it can manifest itself into long term diseases.” Following the presentation, Selectman Thomas Theodore announced the start of the walkathon and led all the participants to begin. Many participants conveyed their best wishes for the success of the project, and many came to the members to learn more about stress management and future events.
We would like to thank all the participants in the walkathon. This event is organized by the Project SMILE team: Anvitha Addanki, Sylvia Chin, Sarah Hernandez, Jenny Mazzola, Ciara O'Connor, Sinead Qiu, Harshitha Valluri, and Sydney Weng
