2 Survive After Car Drives Off Charlestown Pier, Lands On Dock
A tow truck was called in to pull the SUV back onto the pier after the driver reportedly drove off on accident.
CHARLESTOWN, MA — Two people survived without injury after they drove their car off a pier at the Charlestown Navy Yard Wednesday evening, fire department officials said.
Just before 5:30 p.m. police were called to Constellation Wharf at 1 Eighth St. for a report of an SUV hanging off the pier. Just before 8 p.m. a special tow truck had secured the car and placed it back on solid ground, the fire department tweeted.
A man driving the car accidentally drove it off the pier, a Boston Fire Department official told reporters.

The car was saved from plunging into the water by a small dock below, outside of Pier 6 restaurant at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard Park, photos show.
The driver told reporters on the scene he stepped on the gas instead of the break. That happens more than you'd think, according to Author Malcolm Gladwell, who tackles the issue in his podcast.
