Boston City Council Gets $12K Pay Raise

The 13-member council passed a 9-4 vote Wednesday in favor of the 14 percent pay hike.

Just days ahead of a citywide municipal election, Boston’s City Council voted to give itself a 14 percent pay raise Wednesday.

In passing a 9-4 vote, the annual salary of council members will increase by $12,000 to $99,500.

The pay hike also calls for a $24,000 raise for Mayor Marty Walsh. If accepted, Walsh’s annual salary would spike to $199,000, but he said he will no be accepting the extra money.

The pay raise marks the first since 2006 for the 13-member council.
