Boston Police Disarm Knife-Wielding Suspect After Tense Confrontation

The incident took place at an apartment building on Brennan Street.

Boston, MA - Boston police officers were able to successfully subdue a knife-wielding attacker after a hostile standoff at an apartment building on Brennan Street early Monday morning.

Officers were called to the apartment around 12:08 a.m. after a security guard at the building said a resident threatened him with a knife and then ran back upstairs.

After a brief search, officers located the suspect holding a large kitchen knife. They drew their weapons, created safe distance and issued commands for the suspect to the drop the knife, officials said.

The suspect repeatedly stepped toward the officers in a threatening manner, while yelling “Kill me! Shoot me!” as he pointed the knife at them.

One officer was forced to take cover in a nearby elevator, but kept the door open to maintain visual contact with the suspect. The second officer backed further down the hall, holstered his weapon and attempted to calm the armed suspect, officials said.

The suspect then charged towards the officer in the hallway who again took out his firearm. With the suspect’s full attention on the officer in the hallway, he was caught by surprise as he passed the officer in the elevator who sprayed him in the face with pepper spray, causing the suspect to retreat.

Officers were eventually able to convince the suspect to drop the knife and took him into custody after a brief struggle, officials said.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and a psychiatric evaluation.
