CHAD Showing 'An American Tail' Thursday at John Harvard Mall

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Aug. 8 in Charlestown.

1. Rain: Expect showers and a possible thunderstorm on Thursday, Aug. 8, with a chance of more storms, possibly with heavy rain, in the evening, according to the National Weather Service. The rest of the day will be mostly cloudy. High: 81, Low: 70.

2. CHAD Movie Night: Charlestown Against Drugs will host a family movie night on Thursday, Aug. 8 at the John Harvard Mall, on the upper level. The movie, “An American Tail,” will be shown around dusk. Bring your own chairs or blankets.

For your health: MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center is partnering with the Dana Farber Mammogram Van to provide basic screening for women age 40 and up in Charlestown on Thursday, Aug. 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call 617-724-8168 to register. In addition, MGH Charlestown is working with Fenway Health to offer confidential, free rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing on Thursday from 1-4 p.m. Call 617-724-8135 for information.

Soccer with the pros: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is teaming up with The New England Revolution and Massachusetts General Hospital to give children with disabilities and their siblings an opportunity to meet and play soccer with Revolution players and coaches. Registration is required, and all participants must be under

Author visit: Children’s book author Jim Arnosky will visit the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. Arnosky will play guitar, sing songs and talk about his illustrations. He will also be available to sign books. There is limited space for this program; pick up a ticket at the library in advance.
