This Charlestown Business Got The Most Federal Coronavirus Money

The federal government has sent more than $2.3 million to two Charlestown companies for coronavirus relief efforts since March.

CHARLESTOWN, MA — The federal government has sent more than $2 million to Charlestown companies for coronavirus relief efforts since Congress passed the CARES Act in March.

The bulk of the funding in Charlestown, $2.3 million, was awarded to Accion Systems.

Accion Systems has received contracts under the CARES Act under the Department of Air Force for research and development, according to the Federal Procurement Data System.

Accion Systems, which was founded in 2014 by engineers at the MIT Space Propulsion Lab, specializes in electric propulsion, satellite subsystems and research and development.

William Lowe and Sons corporation, a moving company based in town, also claimed $60,000 under veterans affairs for moving used household and office goods.

Congress passed the $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act on March 27. In addition to direct aid to people who lost their jobs and the Paycheck Protection Program to help small businesses avoid laying off workers, the act included direct government spending for fighting the coronavirus.
