Charlestown Native Leads BU to Beanpot Championship Victory

Matt Grzelcyk made a power-play 51 seconds into overtime to help nab the school's first title in six years.

Charlestown native and Boston University Terriers hockey captain Matt Grzelcyk contributed two goals to lift BU to a 4-3 victory over the Northeastern Huskies, leading to the school’s 30th Beanpot crown.

It was BU’s first Beanpot crown since 2009, the same year the team won the NCAA championship, the Boston Globe noted.

ESPN reported that it was the Terriers’ second overtime victory in this year’s Beanpot, following the double-overtime 3-2 defeat of Harvard on Feb. 3. It was the first Beanpot crown for BU seniors Cason Hohmann and Evan Rodrigues.
