Charlestown Slow Streets Deadline Friday

If you want to submit an application to slow down, you must hurry.

The deadline for submitting and application aimed at lowering the speed limit around Charlestown is Friday.

You can get more information of the Slow Streets application here, but generally the City of Boston is looking to decide on whether to reduce speed limits in neighborhood "zones" as opposed to on a street by street basis. A "zone" will be around 10-15 blocks.

The speed limit would then be 20 miles per hour. The Slow Streets program says it will work quickly to install low-cost fixes such as signage, speed bumps, pavement markings, and daylighting.

A key part of an application is soliciting letters of support from key community members, like schools and elected officials.

A few Charlestown residents are spearheading their application along with an independent petition. The link for that is here.
