The company behind one of the most popular hard ciders in New England, Downeast Cider, will be moving from Charlestown to East Boston.

Downeast is swapping the location of its production facility to obtain more space, accommodate high product demands, and to provide easy accessibility for potential visitors.

According to a BostInno report, Downeast has signed a five-year lease at East Boston’s Boston Harbor Shipyard. The 16,000 square-foot location is three times larger than their Charlestown facility.

“We have a lot of thirsty mouths to feed and we can’t fulfill that opportunity out of this space in Charlestown,” Downeast founder Ross Brockman told BostInno.

The company is expected to make the move sometime in 2016. Their Charlestown location will remain open to host tours, tastings, fundraisers and more.

Downcast, which produces over 620,000 gallons of cider per year, can greatly increase its annual output by making the move to East Boston.
