Daily 5: Mayor's Forum in Charlestown

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Thursday, June 27.

1. Rain likely: Thursday will be mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely after 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Some storms could produce small hail, gusty winds and heavy rain. More showers and thunderstorms are possible in the evening, again with possible hail and heavy rain. High: 76, Low: 64.

2. Mayoral debate: The Ward 2 Democratic Committee and Charlestown Against Drugs are sponsoring a forum Thursday night for the candidates running for Boston mayor. Tony V will moderate the discussion, which will be held at Bunker Hill Community College’s main auditorium. There will be a meet and greet from 6-7 p.m. followed by the forum at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; a suggested donation of $20 will support CHAD's Peter Looney Scholarship Fund. 

3. Navy Yard fountain meeting: The Charlestown Neighborhood Council Development Committee will host a meeting Thursday to discuss two separate city projects in the Navy Yard—design of the new Shipyard Park water play feature and development of Parcel 5 near Spaulding Rehab. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital’s Community Room.

4. Book giveaway: The Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) will host a Reading is FUNdamental program Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Behind the Mask Studio will present “The Woman Who Outshone the Sun, featuring dazzling masks and costumes, music and master storytelling. After the performance, each child will be able to select two free books.

5. HIV testing: June 27 is National HIV testing day. Individuals are encouraged to come get tested and learn more about HIV at the MGH Charlestown Healthcare Center from 10 a.m. to noon.
