Daily 5: Shred Fest, Navy Yard Tour This Weekend

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Friday, June 28 in Charlestown.

1. Rainy weekend ahead: Showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected on Friday, mainly before 3 p.m. and into the evening, with some storms producing heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service. High: 80, Low: 69. Weekend forecast: Showers are likely both Saturday and Sunday, with possible T-storms and heavy rain. Highs around 80-81, lows around 66-70.

2. Office hours: Second Suffolk District State Rep. Eugene O’Flaherty holds office hours on the last Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to noon at Zume’s Coffee House (223 Main St.). Drop by to speak with him on any issues of concern.

3. Free Fun Friday: Tour many of Boston’s top historical sites for free during Free Fun Fridays. Tour passes will be given away beginning at 10:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Choose from a History Tour, North End Tour and Pirates and Patriots Tour. Most tours leave from the ArtsBoston BosTixBooth at Faneuil Hall. Click here for more information.

4. Shred fest: Bring your old bank statements, credit card offers and anything else you want shredded securely to The Cooperative Bank (201 Main St.) this Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon. The bank will shred items for free and will recycle the shredded paper. Please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the local food pantry.

5. Navy Yard tour: Take a tour of the Charlestown Navy Yard and learn about the important role the area played in U.S. history this Sunday. Meet your guide outside Gate 1 (the main entrance) of the Navy Yard at 2 p.m. for this free, informational tour.
