“The Pamoja Project,” a documentary film to be shot in June, has partnered with the Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC).

The film, which is still in pre-production, will be a 30-minute documentary that shares the story of three Tanzanian women who work tirelessly to create real change for the people of Tanzania, according to a recent press release.

With music from the BCC, “The Pamoja Project” will aim to promote cross-cultural understanding and encourage viewers to improve their own community like the featured Tanzanian women.

“There is so much research now proving women are the solution to global poverty,” said the film’s director and producer Audrey Emerson. “So it’s time to hear from them.”

Emerson, a Hopkinton native who currently resides in Los Angeles, is a former member of the Boston Children’s Chorus. “It was where I was first exposed to the transformative power of the arts,” she said. “Whether it is music, dance, or film, it’s all about storytelling and that is what we are doing. We are all storytellers.”

The film “takes viewers on a journey alongside Margaret, Astridah, and Crispina; three Tanzanian women who were able to push against oppressive constructs and emerge as leaders in their community,” as stated in the group’s Indiegogo campaign description. “By shadowing these women and learning about their obstacles and victories, we will share the untold story of Africa. One filled with hope, love, and positive change.”
