From Homeless to Hero: Charlestown Teen Honored at Celtics Game
Homeless during high school, EJ Slater has a scholarship to college and was recognized for helping launch a terrific program.
A Charlestown teenager was honored as a hero at Monday night's Celtics game.
EJ Slater, 19, helped found the Charlestown Coalition’s Turn It Around. The award-winning youth-driven program aims to educated the community on the dangers of prescription drug abuse.
Slater grew up in Charlestown and saw how drug abuse can impact a community. His drive to turn things around led to him being a part of the launch Turn it Around.

An inspiration all around, Slater spent his high school years homeless, but that didn't stop him from earning a four-year college scholarship.
