New Post Office Reopens In Charlestown's Bunker Hill Mall
After some uncertainty, the United States Post Office in Charlestown has finally opened in a new spot in the same strip mall.

CHARLESTOWN, MA — The United States Post Office in Charlestown, has officially moved. But its address hasn't changed much. On Wednesday, the branch announced it had reopened about a half a dozen stores down from its former spot at Bunker Hill Mall to a new spot in the same strip mall next to Citizens Bank.
"The Postal Service looks forward to serving the local Charlestown community from our new
location at Bunker Hill Mall," Steven Doherty a spokesperson for the United States Post Office, said in a statement. "Our new office will be following all COVID-19 social distancing protocols, and although ourcustomers may not be able to see our associates’ smiles behind the masks, they can be confidentknowing that they will receive the same high quality service they have come to expect from the U.S. Post Office."
The reopening punctuates a couple years when the future address of the post office was unknown.

The owner of the strip mall, New England Development has said it informed the post office in 2017 the lease would run at the end of 2018. In early 2019 the post office was sent an eviction notice, and was set to go to court for an eviction hearing. Several news outlets reported that the nearby CVS would be expanding into the space that the post office occupied. There was at some point a question about whether the post office would just close altogether. Then, in November, a sign on the door of the post office popped up indicating it would continue, but it was still looking for a new spot and officials were open to suggestions.
It's not clear how long the lease is set to last for this space.
