Rachelle Bond Held on $1M Bail In Connection With Toddler's Murder
Bella Bond's mother is charged as an accessory after the fact of the two-year-old's murder, allegedly committed by the mom's boyfriend.

The mother of a young girl found dead on a Deer Island beach in June has been held on $1 million bail as an alleged accomplice to the toddler’s murder.
Rachelle Bond was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court Wednesday morning on a charge of accessory after the fact of the two-year-old Bella’s murder. Rachelle Bond’s boyfriend, Michael McCarthy has been charged with murder.
Bella’s mother allegedly helped her boyfriend dispose of Bella’s body, putting her in a plastic bag and dumping her body in the water. The toddler — then known as “Baby Doe” — washed up on the beach in June. Her identity remained a mystery for months, with police even putting up billboards around the state asking anyone who may have known her for information.

In September, police got a break, with information leading them to McCarthy and Rachelle Bond. The investigation led police to the Bond’s Dorchester home. The couple was taken into custody. Bond admitted to a friend of McCarthy’s that he had murdered her daughter, police have said. She also confessed to the same individual that she was an “accessory after the fact,” according to authorities.
Statements made by Bond to investigators revealed McCarthy allegedly punched Bella to death because she had been acting “unruly.”

“She was a demon anyway. It was her time to die,” McCarthy reportedly told Bond after she found Bella dead in her room.
During the arraignment Wednesday, prosecutors said Bond claimed McCarthy threatened to kill her if she said anything about Bella’s murder, WHDH, 7 News reports. The pair allegedly disposed of the body, continued their relationship, and continued to accept public assistance after the girl’s death. For that, Rachelle Bond has also been charged with larceny.
McCarthy, who is being held without bail on a first degree murder charge, is next due in court Jan. 11.
