Six-foot LEGO USS Cassin Young Unveiled at Navy Yard Event
Build was created by LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston and will be on display at USS Constitution Visitor Center
LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston has created a LEGO® replica of the USS Cassin Young in celebration of its 75th birthday this year. The model was unveiled on Saturday at the Charlestown Navy Yard during a ceremony to commemorate three Naval birthdays- the US Navy (243rd), “Old Ironsides” (221st), and USS Cassin Young (75th).
Designed and created by LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston Master Model Builder Megan Amaral, the build includes 9,121 pieces of LEGO® brick and is 6 feet long and 15 inches tall. It took Megan 46 hours to design and build the LEGO® replica ship.
"I've always enjoyed history so to be able to commemorate the USS Cassin Young's birthday in LEGO® bricks was fantastic," said Megan Amaral, LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Boston Master Model Builder. "I was glad that most of the National Park Service staff and military veterans at the event appreciated the details that were put into it because I wanted to make sure we had as many as possible to capture the essence of the ship."
