CHARLESTOWN, MA —Ahead of a makeover of Rutherford Avenue near Sullivan Square, it looks like city officials will include a new rapid-transit bus lane as part of the $122 million project. There's just one problem the Globe reported; “There aren’t any Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority bus routes running on the road today.”

If transit advocates have their way the city would reserve a lane so that a possible bus line from Everett to downtown Boston could scoot through without traffic.

But it raises the question: Does that stretch need a bus route?
