Townies Football in Action Friday Against Randolph Oilers
Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Aug. 9 in Charlestown.

1. Showers: Friday, Aug. 9 will be wet with possible thunderstorms and heavy rain throughout the day and evening, according to the National Weather Service. High: 77, Low: 68. Weekend forecast: Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 86 and a low around 62. Sunday will be sunny with a high near 78 and a low around 61.
2. Townies in action: The Charlestown Townies semi-pro football team will be in action Friday night, Aug. 9, against the Randolph Oilers. Kick-off is set for 8 p.m. at Randolph High School. Check out the Townies’ full schedule at charlestowntownies.com.
3. Teen Game Time: Teenagers can drop by the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) on Friday, Aug. 9 from 2-4 p.m. to play a variety of board games. This program is free, with no registration required.

4. Storymobile: ReadBoston’s Storymobile Program will be bringing books and literacy activities to Charlestown children on Fridays in August. The Storymobile will be at The Children’s Quarters (136 First Ave.) at 10 a.m., the Kennedy Center (23A Moulton St.) at 11:15 a.m. and the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) at 1:15 p.m.
5. Tufts 10K: Team in Training is seeking runners for the upcoming Tufts 10K for Women, an event to fight blood cancer, set Oct. 14 at the Boston Common. The eight-week workout program takes place on alternating Saturday and Sunday mornings in Natick, Aug. 17-Oct. 14. Register online at teamintraining.org/ma.
