LOWELL, MA — One man was shot dead Tuesday night in Lowell, the Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Superintendent of Police Raymond Kelly Richardson confirmed. Authorities say no arrests have been made.

Someone called 911 to report shots fired around 8:30 p.m., Tuesday near L and Coburn streets, according to the DA's office. When Lowell Police arrived they found Luis DeJesus, 18, of Lowell, suffering from a gunshot wound.

First responders rushed DeJesus to Lowell General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said a second man, in his 20s, was treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds around the same time as the DeJesus shooting. Investigators believe the two knew each other and that the shootings are connected.

Investigators said a preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting happened near the corner of Jewett and West 4th streets, where they found a gun.

Authorities said they do not think this was a random event.

Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Lowell Police Department and the State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office are investigating. No charges have been filed, according to the DA's office.
