23 Percent Of Chelmsford Residents Have Gotten A Vaccine Dose

CHELMSFORD, MA — Twenty-three percent of the town's nearly 35,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to state data released Thursday.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the residents most vulnerable to the coronavirus is bearing fruit in Chelmsford, where those 75 or older have received the most vaccinations per capita, despite making up just 9 percent of the town's population. Seventy-four percent of those 75 and older have received at least one dose. And 38 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Fifty-four percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 14 percent are fully vaccinated. That group only makes up 13 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Chelmsford, a number far outpaced by the 30-49 and 50-64 age groups.

Overall, 8,352 of the 35,973 residents in Chelmsford have received at least one dose.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed Chelmsford has continued to make progress.

The positive test rate declined from 2.81 percent to 2.42 percent, while the average daily incidence rate per 100,000 also dropped from 17.7 to 14.9.

There were 75 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 2,464.
