Charles McKelvey Awarded Jake Elmore Memorial Scholarship

McKelvey has been skating since the age of 3 and made the Chelmsford High School varsity ice hockey team as a freshman.

CHELMSFORD, MA -Chelmsford High School senior Charles McKelvey was awarded the Jake Elmore Memorial Scholarship by the Chelmsford Hockey Association.

The Chelmsford Hockey Association awards the $1,000 scholarship each year in honor and remembrance of Jacob M. Elmore (Jake), a "dedicated player" who passed away at the age of 12 in a tragic accident.

Charles launched his hockey career 3-years-old in CHA’s Learn-To-Skate Program and went on to play seven seasons with the organization. He made the Chelmsford High School varsity team as a freshman and played four seasons with the Lions, two of which were spent as captain.

"Charles has also given back to CHA by helping out with our Learn-To-Skate and Learn-To-Play Hockey Programs. Beyond the hockey rink, Charles has given back to the broader community by volunteering for K.I.D.S (Kids in Disability Sports)," the CHA wrote in the announcement.

Charles plans to attend the University of New Hampshire in the fall to study economics and business accounting. He hopes to one day become an accountant for a major banking firm.

"Charles was selected by our Elmore Scholarship Committee not just for the accomplishments on and off the ice. In Charles’ application, he demonstrated the key connection to the CHA community through Jake’s legacy and spirit; Integrity, Honesty, Sportsmanship & Determination," the CHA wrote.
