Chelmsford PD Promotes Two to Lieutenant

The Chelmsford Police Department has promoted two sergeants to lieutenant, Chief James Spinney announced Tuesday.
Lt. Todd Ahern and Lt. Gary Hannagan stepped into their new roles on Monday, Oct. 5.

“Both Lt. Ahern and Lt. Hannagan have been diligent and dedicated officers, always putting the department and community first,” Chief Spinney said. “I know they will excel in these positions and continue to go above and beyond to serve and protect our residents.”
Lt. Ahern joined the department in 1994. Not long after, in 1997, he implemented the first D.A.R.E. program in Chelmsford. He was promoted to detective in 2001 and sergeant in 2004. He will now be assigned as a shift commander.

Lt. Hannagan started in Chelmsford in 1999, made detective in 2005 and was later promoted to sergeant in 2006. He is the current president of the Chelmsford Police Athletic League, where he works to provide opportunities for girls and boys in town to participate in team and individual sports activities in a safe and supervised environment.
Lt. Hannagan will be assigned as a Shift Commander.
