Chelmsford Select Board Preview: July 4 Parade, Policies, Voting

The Select Board will discuss upcoming town election, and town meeting as well as what the American Rescue Plan will mean for Chelmsford.

CHELMSFORD, MA — The Chelmsford Select Board is convening for its regular meeting Monday at 6 p.m., with no shortage of items to discuss. Here's a short list of some of the items on the agenda:

The annual town election: Election 2021 is underway in Chelmsford. For the first time the state has allowed early, in-person voting, which got underway during the weekend. Election Day is April 6. Chelmsford Election 2021: Early Voting, Candidates, Where To Vote

Committee vacancies: There are more than 30 volunteer roles on 16 committees. And they need filling. The committees include everything from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, to the Council on Aging to the Energy Conservation Committee. National Grid and Verizon public hearings: The two companies have petitioned to move some utilities polls on Concord Road, and Gorham Street at Columbus Avenue and on Pine Hill Road. They are required by law to bring it before the public and hold a public hearing where they will describe the work that needs to be done on those streets, and hear from anyone who is for or against.

Element by Westin is changing their hours: So the company is going before the Select Board for approval. They want to change their hours from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. to 12 a.m.

The Select Board is reviewing its own policies on: it's code of conduct, contract and bidding, licensing for pubs and breweries, issuing proclamations and resolutions, vision and values.

106th Anniversary of the Armenian genocide: The Armenian National Committee of Merrimak Valley is requesting the board issue a proclamation for the 106th anniversary of the Armenian genocide between 1915 and 1923,when more than 1.5 Armenians died.

What the American Rescue Plan Funding Means For Chelmsford: In the Commonwealth, more than 3,925,800 adults and 1,331,400 children will benefit from the federal package's "survival checks alone." The Town Manager is set to discuss what it means for Chelmsford, which will likely get $3.49 million.

4th of July Parade: Talk of cancellation.
