Chelmsford Town Employee Injured, Westford Man Killed In Crash

The Chelmsford Department of Public Works employee was clearing debris from the storm when the crash happened, police said.

CHELMSFORD, MA — A Westford man died in Chelmsford Tuesday night when he crashed into a front-end loader, injuring a municipal employee driving it during Tropical Storm Isaias.

Around 9:30 p.m., several people called 911 to report a serious crash near the intersection of Graniteville Road and School Street.

According to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Michael Franklin, a 22-year-old Westford man, was driving a pickup truck when upon entering the intersection he hit the bucket of a municipal front-end loader driven by a 53-year-old Chelmsford Public Works employee. The worker, who was helping remove fallen trees from the road, was seriously injured.

Emergency responders took the worker to Lowell General Hospital, according to authorities.
