Chelmsford Town Meeting 2016 Approves All Budget Items

And what to expect at next week's meeting.

CHELMSFORD, MA - Chelmsford Town Meeting approved every budget issue on the board Monday night.

Here's a breakdown of what was approved at Town Meeting:

  • Article 2: Amend Fiscal Year 2016 Operating Budget.
  • Article 3 - Nashoba Valley Technical School District FY17 Assessment
  • Article 4 - Fiscal Year 2017 Chelmsford Public Schools Operating Budget
  • Article 5 - Fiscal Year 2017 General Government Operating Budget
  • Articles 7, 9, 11, 14 and 15
  • Article 8 - Fiscal Year 2017 Sewer Enterprise Operating Budget
  • Article 10 - PEG Access and Cable Related Enterprise Fund & FY17 Operating Budget
  • Article 12 - Fiscal Year 2017 Capital Budget
  • Article 13 - Chelmsford Forum Parking Lot Resurfacing
  • Article 16 - Community Preservation Fund: FY17 Debt Service, Admin. Expenses and Reserves

An amendment to throw out Article 7 was the only failure at Monday's Town Meeting. The article reads: "to see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate, or transfer from available funds such sums of money to be used in the Reserve Fund at the discretion of the Finance Committee for Fiscal Year 2017, as provided in General Laws Chapter 40, section 6; or act in relation thereto."

Town Meeting will resume on Monday, May 2. Articles to be brought before the meeting include: the rezoning of the land parcel located at 50 Hunt Road from RB residential to CB roadside commercial; increasing the fine for shoveling snow onto public roadways or sidewalks; prohibiting commercial vehicles from extracting from Chelmsford water sources due to the possibility of contamination; establishing a pathway from Swain Road to Oak Hill; and more.
