Chelmsford Trick-Or-Treating Still On, Despite Weather

Although you might want to consider including an umbrella in your costume this year, Chelmsford Trick-or-Treating is rain or shine.

CHELMSFORD, MA — Each year on all Hallow's Eve ghosts, goblins, dinosaurs and robots and princesses take over the town and promise to be good if only they're paid off with some sweet stuff. But where's the best spot to go? And will the city move Halloween to Friday, instead?

The weather first: Mary Poppins and that Morton Salt girl costume or hey Christopher Robin in his yellow rain coat are starting to look pretty good about now: The forecast for this Thursday is a wet one, featuring "widespread rain and potential for strong winds," according to the National Weather Service.

Typically, Chelmsford celebrates Halloween on October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., rain or shine. And that's the plan this year, too, the town clerk told Patch.

"The Board of Selectmen and the Police Chief set the date for Halloween. It is always on the 31st in Chelmsford," said Town Clerk Tricia Dzuris. "It will not be postponed due to rain."

In 2017 there was an ice storm that brought down power lines and closed schools. That’s the only time in recent memory the holiday was changed.
