Halloween Mask Contest Deadline Coming This Week

The Chelmsford Center for the Arts is holding a competition with cash prizes for middle school students.

Break out the fabric, glitter, paper mache and any other medium you need to create a spectacular Halloween mask.

It could win you money.

The Chelmsford Center for the Arts is holding a Halloween Mask Competition open to middle school students in Chelmsford and neighboring towns. The competition is in conjunction with the center’s special “Halloween Spectacular” performance on Friday, Oct. 30. The masks will be displayed as part of the performance and the artists behind the top three submissions will receive cash prizes.

Entries should be turned in at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts (1A North Road, Chelsmford) on Wednesday, Oct. 14 or Thursday, Oct. 15 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. One entry per student.

The masks must be three-dimensional and no larger than 18 inches (height) by 12 inches (width) by 8 inches (depth). Imagination is the only limit on acceptable materials.

Jurors Jim Dyment, executive director of The Brush Art Gallery in Lowell, and Cynthia Hughes, a Chelmsford resident and accomplished fabric artist will judge the masks based “the originality, quality of execution, and the artist’s individual technique/style,” according to a contest announcement.

Each mask submission should have the following information firmly attached:

  • Name of student
  • Name of school
  • Grade
  • Student’s phone number

Prizes include $50 for first place, $25 for second and $10 for third. All the entries will be on display at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts throughout the holiday season.
