MA Baseball Team Offers To Host Trump-Biden Boxing Match

The "Slasher at LeLacheur," brought to you by the Lowell Spinners.

LOWELL, MA – A Massachusetts minor league baseball team wants to see if President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden have any bite. The Lowell Spinners, a short-season Single A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, offered Thursday to host a boxing match between the pair to settle their recent Twitter feud.

The fight, billed as the "Slasher at LeLacheur," would be held Friday August 17 at 6:35 p.m. at the Spinners' LeLacheur Park. Former WBU light welterweight world champion and "The Fighter" subject Micky Ward has agreed to referee the fight, according to the Spinners.

Of course, it would go down by the flag pole.

Taking a page out of Ali's rough drafts, Biden and Trump traded insults on social media this week. The former vice president kicked it off by saying, "If we were in high school, I would take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him."

Trump countered Thursday with the equally menacing, "He doesn't know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way."

"It's a shame this feud has escalated the way it has, and the American people deserve better. Instead of a war of words, let's give the two of them a chance to settle their differences the old fashioned way, in the ring, with the great Micky Ward officiating," Spinners owner Dave Heller said in a statement. "Boxing fans like me remember the 'Thrilla in Manila' and the 'Rumble in the Jungle,' but everybody, Republican and Democrat alike, would remember the 'Slasher at LeLacheur!'"

If the fighters don't show, fans will still see a bout. The park will host a March Madness-style "Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots Rumble" tournament that night, during which contestants will be able to pick their fighter (red or blue) based on who they think would win the "Slasher at LeLacheur."

If the blue robot wins, the winning contestant will get free ice cream – a Biden favorite – for a year at LeLacheur Park. If the red robot comes out on top, the winner will get free cheeseburgers – a Trump dining staple – for a year.

Fans wishing to enter the "Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots Rumble" event can sign up at lowellspinners.com or by calling the box office at (978) 459-1702. Registration is $15 and includes a box ticket to the game.
