Man Doused Wife In Gas, Lit Her On Fire In Lowell Home: DA

The 42-year-old man was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. His wife is in critical condition.

LOWELL, MA — A man accused of lighting his wife on fire in the bathtub of their Lowell home was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

Santos Lebron De Los Santo, 42, was arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court on a charge of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. His dangerousness hearing is scheduled for April 12.

Prosecutors said that on Wednesday night De Los Santo doused his wife in gasoline while she was in the bathtub and used a lighter to ignite her.

A woman passing by the Varnum Avenue home reported seeing a fire inside. Officers found the victim with serious burns on most of her body.

The victim is in critical condition.
