NH Man Charged In Connection With Fatal Teen Shooting In Lowell

LOWELL, MA - Police arrested a man Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of a teen in Lowell this week.

Police arrested Robert Rosa, 25 of Nashua, N.H., Wednesday night and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm, possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling following the Feb. 4 fatal shooting near the corner of Jewett and West 4th streets in Lowell.

Wednesday night officials issued a warrant for Rosa’s arrest, and then found and arrested him at his home in Nashua, NH, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Superintendent of Police Raymond Kelly Richardson said in a news release.

Rosa will be arraigned in New Hampshire on the charge of being a fugitive from justice Thursday. It's not clear when he will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on charges related to the shooting.

Police said someone called 911 to report shots fired around 8:30 p.m., Tuesday near L and Coburn streets. When Lowell Police arrived they found Luis DeJesus, 18, of Lowell, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Lowell General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said a second man, in his 20s, was treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds around the same time as the DeJesus shooting. That man turned out to be Rosa, according to authorities.

Police said their investigation suggests that Rosa and DeJesus were arguing about something when Rosa fired a gun he had. Police said they found the gun later.

Authorities said additional charges are possible.
