Overnight Rt. 3 Closures To Continue Through Friday

Varying closures will be put in place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

CHELMSFORD, MA – The following is an announcement from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that there will be temporary overnight lane closures and rolling roadblocks on varying sections of Route 3 north and southbound in Burlington, Bedford, and Chelmsford beginning the evening of Sunday, December 2, and continuing on some nights through the morning of Friday, December 7.

The location and timing of these overnight impacts is as follows:

· On Route 3 southbound between Exit 27 (Concord Road) and Exit 26 (Route 62) on the evening of Sunday, December 2.

· On Route 3 northbound between the Route 128/I-95 interchange and Exit 26 (Burlington Road) on the evening of Monday, December 3.

· On Route 3 southbound between Exit 32 (Route 4) and the Steadman Street overpass on the evening of Thursday, December 6.

The varying lane closures will be put in place each evening between 10:00 p.m., and 5:00 a.m., and rolling road blocks will utilized after midnight each night as needed. All lanes will be re-opened for travel by 5:00 a.m. each morning. These temporary off-peak traffic impacts are necessary to allow crews and contractors to safely and effectively install new overhead variable message sign structures.

Signs, traffic control devices and law enforcement details will be used to guide drivers through the work zone. MassDOT encourages drivers to reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone and to allow for extra time through this area. All work is weather dependent and is subject to change without notice.

This work is being conducted as part of a $2.8 million project to install new variable message signs and related Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components along various highways.
