Terrifying I-495 Video Captures Ice Sheet Crashing Through Windshield
This is what happens when you don't clear snow and ice from your car.
A local man captured a terrifying video of what can happen when you don’t clear snow from the roof of your car.
Jeffrey Cote had a dashcam running on Interstate 495 in Haverhill when a huge sheet flew off the roof of a sport utility vehicle and crashed through his windshield.

“If I had braked harder, I could have avoided impact, but it initially appeared the piece was going to fall in front of me,” said Cote, who was not hurt. “(It) destroyed my windshield, bent my wiper arm, and damaged my side mirror.”

Local police have the authority to cite drivers who don’t clear snow from their vehicles.
Last year, a local family was lucky to escape unharmed when a sheet of ice flew off another vehicle and crashed through their windshield. And in 2011, a Westford man was seriously injured when a sheet of ice flew off a tractor trailer and crashed through his windshield.
