Traffic To Shift On VFW Highway Over Beaver Brook In Lowell
This work is part of the $12.2 million project to replace the bridge carrying the VFW Highway over Beaver Brook.
LOWELL, MA – Eastbound traffic on the VFW Highway in Lowell will be shifted onto a portion of the newly completed Phase I bridge over Beaver Brook beginning 11 a.m. on Jan. 4, according to The Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
This work is part of the $12.2 million project to replace the bridge carrying the VFW Highway over Beaver Brook and to reconstruct the adjacent sections of the VFW Highway.
The eastbound traffic will be shifted to the south side of the new bridge and will continue to be restricted to a single lane.

The westbound traffic will temporarily remain in its current alignment on the existing bridge to allow work crews to safely and efficiently complete pavement marking modifications and relocate temporary median barriers that will be used as part of the traffic management for the next phase of construction.
Westbound traffic will be shifted to the south onto the remaining portion of the new Phase I bridge on Jan. 11, and will continue to be restricted to a single lane.

Traffic signs and messaging will be used to guide drivers through the work zone. MassDOT encourages drivers to reduce speed and use caution.
The new traffic management operations will allow the contractor to commence work associated with the Phase II bridge.
