This emotionally engaging production, adapted from the celebrated musical currently running on Broadway, is a rousing Calypso-flavored tale. Filled with colorful characters and heart-pounding music, the story follows the adventures of one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice. Written by the legendary Broadway writing team, Ahrens and Flaherty (Anastasia, Ragtime, Seussical.)

Our goal for this program is to provide the younger generation of VOH members a fun and meaningful summer theatrical experience where they can develop their performance skills, while also learning how the arts can contribute to such important work as Voices of Hope’s mission to support cancer research.

“Once On This Island Jr.” is directed by Kay Marsella of Chelmsford and Jon DiPrima of North Andover with choreography by Belinda Smith of Wakefield. The cast represent some of the finest of VOH's youth talent and hail from towns ranging from the south to north shores as well as Middlesex county.

VOH youth sing in support of their family members and friends who have fought and survived a cancer diagnosis, and those who currently coping with the devastating impact of this disease. Some sing in honor of those whose voices have gone silent much too soon.

But, as with every Voices of Hope production, the overwhelming message is of positivity and HOPE for a cure! This will be the inaugural performance at VOH's dedicated rehearsal space, affectionately referred to as "The Nest." Come join us, celebrate the enthusiasm and talent of these teens, and enjoy a wonderful night of musical theater while supporting cancer research.

All proceeds from the performance will contribute to VOH’s annual donation to The Termeer Center for Targeted Therapies at MGH Cancer Center.
