Concord Firefighter Ed Curran Dies at 85

He served in the Korean War.

Edward D. Curran, Jr., 85, Ret. Concord Fire Department and a lifelong Concord resident died Monday, December 1st at the Woburn Nursing Center.

Born in Concord on October 20, 1929 he was the son of the late Edward Sr. and Catherine (Gannon) Curran.

He attended Concord Public Schools and graduated from Concord High School in 1949. During the Korean Conflict, he served as a Corporal in the United States Army.

For thirty-three years, prior to his retirement in 1989, he served as a Fireman for the Concord Fire Department.

For many years, he enjoyed working with his lifelong friend, Jack “Jumbo” Flynn of the J.F. Flynn Company of Concord.

Survivors include his brother, Francis D. Curran and his wife Barbara of Concord, his nephews, David Curran and his wife Claudia of Concord, and Timothy Curran of Ayer, his niece, Mary Curran Bendel of Hudson, NH, and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Concord Firemen’s Relief Association, 209 Walden Street, Concord, MA 01742.

Concord’s town flag flew at half-staff on Tuesday in recognition of Mr. Curran’s service to his country during the Korean Conflict.
