The American Recorder Society presents the “Recorder Relay” on Friday, June 14 from 10 am-2 pm as part of the 2019 Boston Early Music Festival. The 20-minute vignette recitals include soloists, chamber ensembles, and Boston's own recorder orchestra performing music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. Performers include Aldo Abreu, Steven Lundahl, Sarah Cantor, John Tyson, Emily O'Brien, Sheila Beardslee, Teresa Deskur, Beth Hilgartner, Mathilde Sundaram, and Eric Haas. These programs are FREE and open to the public. The Relay Recitals take place at Chipman Hall, located on the 6th floor at 88 Tremont Street in Boston.

Concordia Consort, ensemble in residence at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, will be featured at 12 noon in this four-hour mini recorder festival. The Consort’s program, Canti e Canzone (Songs and Canzonas), highlights works by Italian Renaissance composers. Soprano Eileen Cecelia Callahan will sing sacred and secular works by Fabritio Dentice, Møgens Pedersøn, and Carlo Gesualdo. Concordia's instrumentalists — director Sheila Beardslee (Acton), Peter Dixon (Concord), Nouri Newman (Melrose) and Brian Warnock (Arlington), recorders — will perform lively and elegant canzonas by Cesario Gussago, Adriano Banchieri and Vicenzo Ruffo.

Following the Relay Recitals, ARS will host an Award Ceremony and Reception for Distinguished Achievement Award winner Tom Prescott and Presidential Special Honor Award winner Eric Haas. Don’t forget to visit the ARS Booth during the BEMF exhibition, Wednesday June 12 to Saturday June 15, 10 am-5 pm at the Courtyard Marriott Boston Downtown, 275 Tremont Street, Boston, MA.
