Concord resident Jerrell Engermann is an important new voice that has been added to the Board of Directors of Boston Uncornered, College Bound Dorchester’s solution that uses education to end gang violence and systemic generational urban poverty. “Boston Uncornered will benefit from Jerrell’s insight and experience,” says Boston Uncornered co-founder Michelle Caldeira. “He is a talented leader who embraces our mission and recognizes the true power of leveraging opportunities for good.” The goal of Boston Uncornered is to unlock the potential of gang-involved individuals, supporting them on a path to become positive influencers in our city, leading their networks toward college degrees rather than violence.

Growing up in Mattapan, Engermann remains connected to the community and is a powerful advocate for social justice. “Boston Uncornered aligns with my belief that education is the path to opportunity,” Engermann says. “I hope to be able to give back to the community that raised me, highlight the good work happening there, and bring resources to those that have been forgotten about.” Boston Uncornered students are part of a population that has been especially hard hit by COVID-19. “The pandemic has made the support of our students more important than ever,” says Caldeira.” We are committed to taking the extra steps to provide access to opportunities and I’m excited to have Jerrell join in this movement with us.”

Engermann graduated with a BA in English from Assumption College and has built a career in financial services. He is currently a Senior Relationship Manager at Empower Retirement and is a member of the Waltham YMCA board of advisors. A former athlete, he is passionate about fitness and instills those values in his four children he is raising with his wife Molly.
