Concord's Mary Krueger: Lifelong Resident Dies at 99

She died at Emerson Hospital on Dec. 26.

Mary J. (Mazzeo) Krueger, 99, of Concord, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. She was the beloved wife for 67 years of the late Edgar H. Krueger who died in 2009.

Born in Concord on April 3, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Nancy (Engeneri) Mazzeo. She attended Concord public schools and graduated from Concord High School in 1933. Growing up in Concord during the 1920’s, Mrs. Krueger recalled going to school in a horse drawn sleigh pung and her home being heated by coal and lit by oil lamps.

As a young adult, Mrs. Krueger helped with the daily operations of the family’s business, the Mazzeo Family Farm, established in 1935. It was located off Old Bedford Road and consisted of 17 acres. It was purchased by the Town of Concord and is now the present site of the Ripley School Building. She was a former member of the Middlesex Extension, Home Economics Council where she participated in educating families about farming practices and she received a Certificate of Appreciation for her nineteen years of volunteerism for the Cooperative Extension Service at the University of Massachusetts.

A lifelong Concord resident, she was a member of the Concord Council on Aging, and was a longtime Communicant of Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard’s Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the West Concord Woman’s Club.

An avid gardener, she enjoyed arranging flowers, and was a member of the Worcester Horticultural Society and the Tower Hill Botanical Gardens in Boylston. Her hobbies included oil painting, photography, making and painting ceramics and pottery, sewing and knitting. On many occasions, Mrs. Krueger dined and socialized with family and friends at her favorite restaurants, The Colonial Inn in Concord as well as Tower Hill, Twigs Café in Boylston.

Survivors include two sons, Richard E. Krueger of Port Richie, Florida and Robert J. Krueger of Concord, one daughter, Nancy E. Gresham of Concord, and her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late Josephine Mazzeo and Julie Casey.

Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 3rd from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center at 9 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard’s Church at 10 am.

Burial will follow in the family burial plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.

Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, will be held on Friday, January 2nd from 4 to 8 pm.
