Emerson Hospital Offers Endoscopic Ultrasound
Emerson is one of the first hospitals in the area to offer the minimally invasive procedure that diagnoses and treats digestive diseases.

CONCORD, MA — Emerson Hospital in Concord has become one of the first hospitals in the area to offer Endoscopic Ultrasounds.
The hospital is partnering with Middlesex Digestive Health & Endoscopy Center to offer endoscopic ultrasound, or EUS, procedures. The EUS is used by gastroenterologists to help diagnose and treat patients with complex stomach issues. EUS also evaluates certain cancers in patients treated at the Mass General Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital-Bethke.
The specialized procedure blends endoscopy and ultrasound to yield highly detailed imaging of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tracts. It gives doctors a more detailed and in-depth view of organs like the pancreas, gallbladder, lungs, and bladder, aiding doctors in their treatment plans for patients with gastrointestinal diseases. Most EUS procedures are performed in an outpatient setting with patient sedation and typically take between 20 and 45 minutes.
