Creating Green Space in Lowell Acre Neighborhood Together
A huge SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to Jennifer Brooke from Lemon Brooke Landscape Architects in Concord....
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell is currently involved in a neighborhood revitalization project in the Acre neighborhood in Lowell in which we committed to building 10 new, affordable homes in a 4 block area. In addition to housing, we agreed to build a small community park that was handicap accessible, included play equipment, musical poles, lighting, a shaded pergola area and community gardens.
The park, now called 'Franklin St Green', would NEVER have been possible without the vision of Jennifer Brooke! Through a mutual friend, she was asked for a favor - some help in designing an urban park. The ask was for a couple days of work. Well, the couple days turned into almost a couple years due to issues that came up and changes that had to be made. Jen and her team were fantastic – they redesigned the park multiple times, flagged the area, and even did a team build day where 7 of the employees painted the game-friendly artwork on the asphalt for the kids – all PROBONO!!! Just incredible and it is the most amazing park! The kids in the neighborhood are TOTALLY enjoying it and comments like “I used to like my neighborhood but now I LOVE my neighborhood” are frequently heard. Jen never gave up on us and she was always so positive and so helpful. She is truly a visionary, believes strongly that urban parks are essential to the fabric of the neighborhood and is so creative – it just blows you away! Not sure how we got so lucky to have her insight and expertise but we are so thankful for those donated “couple hours” because they truly made the difference for this neighborhood! www.lowellhabitat.org
